Earth Hour is a global event created to illustrate how each one of us, working together, can make a difference in climate change.  Earth Hour 2011 takes place on Saturday March 26 from 8:30-9:30pm .

In 2011 Thunder Bay is once again participating in Earth Hour. This year the City of Thunder Bay, Thunder Bay Hydro, EarthWise and EcoSuperior are providing prizes for participants who host an Earth Hour event, and share their plans with us!

Host A Party For A Chance To Win An Energy Conservation Prize Pack

Register Now!

Residents interested in hosting an Earth Hour party can register their party online here.  By registering your party you are entered into a draw for an Energy Conservation Prize Pack provided by EarthWise, EcoSuperior, and Thunder Bay Hydro. Here are some ideas for your party to increase energy reduction during the Earth Hour event:
  • Party in the dark - Use the remaining rays of sunlight and candles to illuminate your party leaving the lights off for the duration.
  • Serve a cold/cool meal - Keep the stove, oven and microwave off when preparing the meal. Plan around having food that can be prepared at room temperature.
  • Break out traditional entertainment - Instead of resorting to T.V., stereo or video game entertainment try out some of these activities.
    • Invite friends to bring guitars, kazoos, harmonicas, etc. and enjoy acoustic music for the evening.
    • Board games are great entertainment and don't require any power. Check out current favourites like Scattegories, Apple to Apple, Cranium or go with old classics like Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly, etc.
    • Get active with ping-pong, pool, charades or just escape to the outdoors and tour the neighbourhood seeing which of your neighbours are also participating in Earth Hour.
    • Plan a skating party at a nearby outdoor rink!
