On Saturday May 30th, contestants in the 2nd Annual ecoDriver Rally lined up their cars and got ready to ecodrive! This year we had 6 teams register for the Rally challenge. Entry fee was a donation to the Thunder Bay Tree Stewardship Fund. Drivers started the course at Westgate High School and were tasked to visit 3 locations around town (Done-Rite Imports, Central Car Wash and Dougall Media). The goal was to practice ecoDriving techniques such as route planning, slow starts and stops and as many of the other tips we offer in the ecoDriving program. Temporarily installing a scan gauge into each vehicle allowed us to measure each team's fuel rating (L/100km) and we then compared them to each vehicle's NRCan rating. Final standings are listed below.
Every team had a blast and learned something about ecoDriving. Prizes were given to every team with 1st prize being awarded a Scan Gauge unit (courtesy of Superior Credit Union), 2nd place received a Nitrogen Tire Filling (courtesy of Pinewood Ford) and all other teams received a variety of prizes courtesy of Kia Motors. Central Car Wash donated free car washes to all competitors with EcoSuperior donating a GPS unit for the drop-in draw.
Pinewood Ford, North Star Mercedes and Kia Motors each provided fuel efficient vehicles for the public to test drive.
