Hello honey, how are you? Have you been wearing the scarf I knit for you? They say that wearing a scarf can help prevent colds.
I’m calling to let you know that your father will be sleeping in the guest room for a while. Yes, I know he usually sleeps there anyway but it’s not because of his snoring this time. We have had a big fight!
The weather has turned colder and your father insists on idling the vehicle to warm it up. I keep telling him that ‘they’ say idling is bad for the environment. “Which ‘they’ is it this time he asks: Oprah, Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, or the neighbour’s cat? “
“The environmentalists!” I yelled back at him. I’ve heard that idling wastes fuel, wastes money and adds bad gas into the atmosphere although your father is also responsible for that last one. Even our mechanic says that driving the car is the best way to warm it up (by the way, his mother finally had her bunions removed).
Remember when you were little and we used to wrap you up so tight to go outside that you could barely move or breathe? Well if your father would stop going out in a light jacket like some teenager he wouldn’t need to overheat the car! At least he’s not like those people who idle on a nice day with the windows down! I told him that we need to take care of the planet for the kiddies and he can choose to be part of the problem or be part of the solution. Then he muttered something about me being part of his problem. I told him that some days I just can’t talk to him and he told me that those are his best days. Maybe you can have a talk with him dear and explain that between the idling cars, the farting cows and him, the planet is being polluted and that until he admits that I am right he will be staying in the guest room.
I have to go now dear, I see your dad heading out the door in a spring jacket. I love you and don’t forget to eat plenty of fibre.
