"Great art picks up where nature ends"
--Mark Chagall
Our first Painted Rain Barrel contest and fundraiser in 2011 was such a great success, we're doing it again! We are challenging local artists to creatively paint a rain barrel as part of a fun way to help educate the community about the benefits of water conservation. EcoSuperior will choose participants based on their applications, due February 29. A total of 25 candidates will be selected for this year’s Rain Barrel Art Project, and we will provide each with a primed, ready-to-paint barrel.Feel free to print and share the call for entries poster!
Once artists have been selected, they will have until March 28 to complete their rain barrel. Completed rain barrels will be displayed at the CLE/Sports Dome Home and Garden Show March 30 - April 1. Barrels will be sold to the highest bidders in a silent auction where all proceeds will go towards supporting the development of our environmental demonstration house at 560 Red River Road.

Guidelines

EcoSuperior will provide each participant with one primed rain barrel and the opportunity to have their finished work seen by over 10,000 people! Painting And Planning Guidelines:
- Important note: To help you plan the design of your barrel, note that the small spigot hole at the bottom of the barrel will serve as the front. In most cases, the back of the rain barrel will be against the wall.
- Please do not adhere anything, such as paper, embellishments, etc. to the barrels.
- Remember you are only limited by your imagination! Art work does not need to have an environmental theme. However, please avoid topics of a political, religious or sexual nature. Outdoor acrylic craft paint or small amounts of house paint work best.
Acrylic craft paint may be purchased at the following stores: Tom Thumb Hobbies & Crafts, The Painted Turtle, Michaels Arts & Crafts, Wal-Mart or Dollarama.
-
Provide at least 48 hours of drying time before applying top coat. Apply two coats of polyurethane spray - allow the polyurethane to dry between coats.
Clear polyurethane spray may be purchased at the following stores: Maier Hardware, Home Hardware, Michaels Arts & Crafts, Canadian Tire, or Wal-Mart.
-
EcoSuperior Environmental Programs will not be liable for any damage to the barrel during the display period.
-
Cash Prize – Proceeds from the rain barrel earning the highest bid will be shared 50/50 between EcoSuperior and the artist. In the case of more than one rain barrel earning the same highest bid, a random draw will be held to determine the winner. Other prizes may be added.
We thank you for your participation and greatly appreciate the donation of your time and talent in our first-ever Rain Barrel Art Project. Good luck!
