Although mercury performs many useful functions in our workplaces and homes, it is a neuro-toxin which can impair the way we see, hear and function.

Mercury poisoning attacks the central nervous system. Children, especially those under the age of 6, are especially susceptible to mercury poisoning. Each year in North America due to exposure to broken thermometers alone, there are hundreds of cases of mercury poisoning involving children.

Where is Mercury in My Home?

Many household items contain mercury. These items pose no threat to you or your family when used properly. They can however be hazardous if improperly disposed of or misused. Look for these mercury-containing items in your home:
  • Thermometers
  • Fluorescent lights
  • Mercury-switch thermostats
