LITTER IN OUR
CITY
Is litter a problem
in Thunder Bay?
According to the Group Litter-free
Thunder Bay, the problem of litter in
our city has become a serious issue with
significant visual and economic impacts.
Throughout most of our city, this
problem is abundantly clear. EcoSuperior
and Litter-free Thunder Bay are trying
to stop littering in the first place, to
join the committee or for more
information contact Jim Bailey at
EcoSuperior at 624-2140.
A few litter facts:
q
Scattered garbage has a strong negative
impact upon the beauty of a community
and the pride of its citizens.
q
Litter
affects the economy, discouraging
economic development because it impacts
real estate values.
q
Litter
invites fire, theft and vandalism, and
costs a great deal of money to clean up.
q
Businesses will not locate in a
community, which lacks the pride to
effectively control litter.
A few tips:
q
Spread
the word- tell others not to toss litter
in the first place
q
Always
put your trash in a proper container.
If one is not available, hold on to your
garbage until you find one.
q
Avoid
disposable drink containers, use
reusable, returnable or refillable drink
containers or bring your own cup
q
Use a
litterbag in your car
q
Put
your garbage out for collection as close
to pick-up time as possible and secure
items in both your garbage cans and
recycling bags.
