“Composting can reduce household waste by over 30% while at the same time create a great free fertilizer for your lawn or garden. That’s a lot less garbage to haul to the curb!”

CompostingCompost happens! Volunteer worms and other soil organisms work together to turn kitchen scraps (from vegetables, fruits, tea bags, coffee filters, and even eggshells), leaves, and garden refuse into dark, crumbly, nutrient-rich soil that your plants will love. There are just a few rules of thumb to follow, such as no meat or dairy products (they attract animals) and keeping your compost pile slightly moist, but not soggy. Otherwise, most of the work is done for you.

Learn the ins and outs of composting.

Composting can be done outdoors in a purchased or home-made bin, or indoors using a worm bin (see vermicomposting below). What a great way to reduce waste AND beautify your yard!
