IMPORTANT NOTICE! As of March 31, 2010, no new enrolment is being accepted into the federal government ecoEnergy grants program. However, homeowners can still access grants through the Ontario Home Energy Savings program.

If you are thinking of renovating and want to know what grants are available, please call our office at 624-2140 or visit the province's web page: http://www.mei.gov.on.ca/en/energy/conservation/ohesp/

If you have already had your evaluated, you are still eligible for the federal grants. we recommend that you contact our office for your follow-up evaluation as soon as you have completed your renovations.

In order to be eligible for the current government grants, the home must be evaluated by one of our three certified energy advisors prior to and after completion of the home improvements.

Our Home Energy Evaluation service is delivered under agreement with Green Communities Canada.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A RETROFIT GRANT

To receive your ecoENERGY Retrofit grant, follow these three steps:

  1. Get an ecoENERGY evaluation. (see below for fees and details--we provide a report that will help you prioritize renovations)
  2. Get the work done. (you have until March 2011 to complete the work yourself or with a contractor)
  3. Schedule your post-retrofit evaluation, and we will send in the grant applications for you. (If your home evaluation was scheduled before March 31, 2010, you will receive cheques from both the provincial and federal governments. If your home evaluation was scheduled after that date)

Our Certified Energy Advisor will re-test the performance of your home, check for the recommended upgrades that you have made, and give you a new rating. The advisor will submit an application on your behalf for a cash grant based on the upgrades you make. The more savings measures you implement, the higher the grant for which you will be eligible. You will receive a cheque in the mail directly from the federal government, and a matching amount from the province.

Our Home Energy Evaluation Service

An ecoENERGY residential energy efficiency evaluation provides an objective review of the energy use in your home and determines a rating for the house based on scientific assessment. It provides you with independent advice on how your home uses energy and where it is being wasted. Our certified Advisors will show you how to improve the comfort of your home, cut heating and cooling costs, and ensure you have adequate, healthy ventilation.

Our service includes the following:

  • A detailed energy evaluation of your home performed by a Certified Energy Advisor.
  • A blower door test to find air leaks.
  • A report that explains where your energy dollars are being spent and what you can do to improve your home's energy efficiency.
  • An energy efficiency rating label that shows you how your home compares with others in your region.

There is a cost to the homeowner for the service. The cost of the evaluation can be recovered in most instances through the federal retrofit grant and matching grants from the province. And of course, you will have the savings from your reduced energy costs for years to come. Fees from this service support many of the community environmental programs offered by EcoSuperior.

Cost of Your Evaluation

Initial Energy Evaluation: $300 ($150 will be rebated to you from the provincial government)
Post-renovation Evaluation: $200
Net cost to homeowner: $350

To book an appointment for your evaluation, call our office 624-2140 or contact us.

Grant Amounts

Grant amounts are based on specific improvements that are made in the home. There are restrictions as to the type of furnaces, windows, and other products that must be selected in order to qualify for a grant. You must have the home energy evaluation completed  before any work is begun. Check the federal grant amounts  to find out how much you may be eligible to receive.
