EcoSuperior Partners with Sic Sox Circular to Increase Access to Textile Recycling In Thunder Bay

EcoSuperior is is excited to announce our partnership with Sic Sox Circular Ltd. to increase access to textile recycling in Thunder Bay. This partnership is focused on encouraging Thunder Bay residents to actively engage in diverting textiles from landfills, helping with our mission of creating a healthier future for people and the planet.

Sic Sox Circular is an Indigenous-owned startup company located in Chapleau, Ontario. They offer a one-of-a-kind textile recycling program that aims to divert unusable textiles from the landfill and recycle them into usable materials.

Items accepted are:

  • Household and industrial textiles in all conditions
  • Bedding, towels, and pillows in all conditions
  • Clothing in all conditions
  • Gently used shoes and handbags
  • Stuffed animal toys

Once collected, textiles are brought back to Sic Sox Circular headquarters in Brunswick House First Nation where the volume will be weighed and sorted. Gently used donations will be cleaned and resold online at sicsoxcircular.ca or through their thrift store location in Chapleau. The landfill-quality material is diverted to a shredder breaking the textiles down into usable fibres. In their pilot year, the goal is to turn this cellulose fibre into an industry-approved housing insulation product.
